Bookplates for "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Ultimate Visual History" book

Yesterday, I got a small box in the mail which contained several hundred bookplates for Andrew Farago's "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Ultimate Visual History" book. Andrew had asked me some time ago if I would be willing to sign them, and I agreed. So today I got out my trusty fine-point Sharpie pen, and spent a few hours in my office at Mirage Studios autographing and doing a little Turtle head sketch on each one. I got a bit of a hand cramp, but made it through the whole pile.

Just for the heck of it, I laid them all out on the table in the Mirage lunch room, and took this photo:

The bookplates are on their way now to Kevin Eastman, and then on to Andrew, for their signatures.

I asked Andrew if he could send me a quote to explain what the bookplates were all about, and he got right back to me with the following:

"I'm thrilled to announce a limited edition bookplate for Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Ultimate Visual History signed by me and TMNT co-creators Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman.  My website is under construction right now, so please follow my Facebook page for details:

I'll also post details on my Twitter account: @andrewfarago

A number of the bookplates will be sold to raise funds for Team Cul de Sac, a charitable organization that raises funds for Parkinson's research.  Their founder, Chris Sparks, will post an announcement here once they're available:  http://teamculdesac.blogspot.com/

Writing this book and getting to spend two years researching Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has been a blast, and I'm glad to see that it's been getting such a great reaction from fans and professionals alike.

     Thanks!

     Andrew Farago"

     Thanks, Andrew! -- PL

  1. So cool, to think that Turtle Power(!!) is being put to yet another good use.

(I guess I must've tucked my head into my shell too far, because I somehow missed celebrating the actual publication date. I'll be looking for that book plate announcement, and I've got the book itself on my wish list. Looks fabulous, Peter!!!)

  3. This might be off topic but I just wanted to say that you've really impressed me with those signatures. All of them look very consistent and it amazes me that you took the time to sketch a turtle head on all of them! I know that couldn't have been easy. Sort of like conventions...

I feel fortunate enough to own an issue #4 that both you and Kevin signed back around 1989-90. I consider those the early days. When I compare it to signatures today your's still looks very similar. But Kevin's signature has gotten really lazy and sloppy When I look at the 1989 signature, Kevin really took the time to write out his whole name. There's this beautiful energy and youth in it. I got to see him a few weeks ago at Heroes Con and he just sort of scribbled a K and what looked like Eastman but you could only recognize the "E". And it was done in a really thick sharpie, not the writing pen he used in the past.

Kudos to you Mr. Laird for staying consistent all these years!

    1. These are awesome. I would like to personally thank you, I am one of your biggest fans and never knew it. I was born in 81 so when I was a kid tmnt was my life. I have recently started trying to buy my childhood( which is mainly tmnt stuff) back online. With my ignorance and the fact that I was a kid at the time I never even knew my tmnt universe started from an amazing comics book series. I applogize again feel really dumb admiting that. Of course when I realized what a moron I had been all these years I went and got the comics and read them (amazing). I recently bought a first print tmnt #2 off of eBay (wanted #1 but sooo expensive) and was wondering if you would sign it for me? It would mean the world to me. I think it is awesome how you take the time to sign stuff for your fans and I am truly one of your biggest fans. If you could have the time I would greatly appreciate it my email is jtinaglia1@gmail.com. I found a site that said you could send in pictures for autographs but wasnt sure if I could send a comic. Thank you again for the greatest childhood ever!
      Your biggest fan John

    2. TBF, I do sign books which people send in (with the appropriate self-addressed stamped envelope for return) to Mirage; in fact, I just did some yesterday. -- PL

    3. Awesome! Thank you so much I really appreciate it. I also just bought an amazing drawing that you did in 87 of Raphael shooting Wolverine in the face and was wondering if you remembered drawing it or could tell me anything about it. I personally love the drawing and think it is really cool. It shows your genius and who is more bad ass than Raphael with a gun? Not Wolverine.
      Thanks Again

  4. Got a look at them this weekend, and I'm once again blown away by your generosity! Peter did a head sketch on each and every one of the bookplates, and I'll be making an announcement about purchasing options very soon.

    Thanks again!
